What Do Designers Really Think?

Most of us don’t know what really is going on inside a designers head when he or she is developing the latest seasonal fashion line, or how he does feel when he sees his labels linked with a celebrity, unless his opinion or feeling is quoted, but many still like to speculate.

What Do Designers Really Think When They are Preparing for Upcoming Fashion Shows?

Many believe that they are looking at their labels to see how well certain designs sold. They also like to think that if the results were not too good, they ask themselves why and how they can change them.

Many look to other designers and clothing lines, not to steal ideas, but to get a feel of what works. Most likely, a smart designer will look at Coogi pants and try to figure out exactly why they are so popular and why they remain a fashion must-have season after season.

What Do Designers Really Think When They See Their Labels Linked With a Celebrity?

Most are happy, because very often what a celebrity is seen wearing becomes the next trend. Just look at the clothing worn by rappers and other singers, the forward brushed hair style that was made popular by a still-very-hot teen idol, and other examples.

Also, most fashion designers are interested in what really works for everyone, and they try to develop their seasonal fashion lines with that in mind. Everyone wants to look good, whether that person has celebrity status or not.

Fashions that never go out of style

Fashion trends seem to change as often as the wind blows, and for many people it can be difficult to try to keep up with the demands of trying to stay in style.  But, with a little bit of smart shopping, anyone can stay current by investing in a few pieces that will never go out of style, yet can be matched with other trendy accessories to keep the look current.  Here are a few fashions that will never go out of style, and should be a staple in everyone’s wardrobe.

Black Dress Pants

Black dress pants can be appropriate for practically any setting.  When shopping for that perfect pair of black dress pants, it is important to make sure that they fit properly.  Avoid pants that are too tight, too loose, too long, or too short, because any of these problems can cause the pants to make the wearer look sloppy.

Well-Fitted Jeans

Even though most people have quite a few pairs of jeans in their wardrobe, everyone should be sure to have at least one pair of well-fitting light jeans and one pair of dark jeans.  Slightly flared jeans never go out of style, and can be dressed up or dressed down.

Button-Down Shirt

A crisp white button down shirt is timeless.  It should be slightly tailored, and should not be too loose, short, tight, or in any other way be ill-fitting.

Khakis

Khakis come in so many different styles, and some may not fit the classic look that will stand the test of fashion time.  So, khakis should be well fitted, and pleats should be avoided.

How to Save Money on that Designer Piece You Want

Designer pieces can become great wardrobe staple items, but their high price tags necessitate some heavy research.  Here are several ways to save money on top brand names, including discovering coupons and promotions online and shopping at the right times.

  1. Find Online Coupons
Opportunities to discover online coupons abound, and finding a couple of great coupons can save shoppers a large percentage of their purchase price.  When looking for online coupons, it’s important to go with the most trusted and reputable companies.  Sites like Offers.com provide some of the best deals and widest ranging selections of coupons.
  2. Learn About Promotions
Certain stores, including the occasional designer boutique, will hold specific in-store promotions.  These sales, which are often temporary, allow customers to save on certain items.  Signing up for email lists or mailing lists can let shoppers in on exclusive promotional savings.
  3. Shop During Clearance Months
Lastly, saving money on designer labels is possible if you shop during the right times of the year.  The months of January and July, sometimes known as “clearance months” in the fashion industry, often feature large sales with merchandise that is still current and wearable on the street.  This is because stores usually begin selling their spring items in January and their fall items in July, even though the weather has not yet transitioned.  By shopping during these times, you can find fashion forward, name brand items on sale for a fraction of their original price.

With these simple tips in place, saving money on high quality designer clothing and accessories can be easier than ever!

Men, Women and Shopping

Walk through a shopping mall on Saturday afternoon and notice how many men are sitting in chairs looking bored or if they are lucky, iwatching TV. They are probably waiting for their wives to finish shopping rather than tagging along because men have an intense dislike for women’s shopping habits. Simply put, men’s idea of shopping is to walk into a store, find what they want, buy it and leave. On the other hand, women enjoy the process of shopping and will spend much more time picking out a purchase.

The differences in men and women’s shopping habits is seen in a study conducted the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School of Business in 2007. Wharton’s Jay H. Baker Initiative found that women have a much more personal experience when shopping while men take a more utilitarian approach to shopping. Interviews with men and women shoppers supported these differences. Women were 53 percent more likely to experience problems and reported that 29 percent of their complaints were due to lack of sales help. Men experienced fewer problems (48 percent) and noted that their biggest complaint was parking (29 percent). The study also noted that in 2007 women spent $4 trillion and accounted for 83 percent of consumer spending.

A 2009 article in London’s Telegraph described the findings of a study conducted by the University of Michigan that took the shopping differences in men and women one step further and suggested that men and women’s modern shopping habits evolved from their roles in finding food during prehistoric times – man as the hunter and woman as the gather or forager. Things change and yet remain the same.

Just What Are the Different Types of Engagement Rings?

When you think about the different types of engagement rings, you may think this only refers to the shape of the stones. This is one indication of the different types, but the stones used, as well as the band width and the inclusion of other stones or designs are also used to denote the different types.

The Shapes of the Stones

Although diamonds are the most popular stones used in engagement rings, it is not unusual to see them with other gemstones such as sapphires, emeralds, jade, ruby, or any type of precious or semi-precious stone. Any of these stones can be fashioned into different shapes, although the softness of some stones may limit them to oval, round, or square shapes only.

Other Stone Shapes

Besides the three aforementioned, gemstones, diamonds especially can also come in other shapes, and these are generally referred to by different names rather than the shape itself. If you want to keep it simple, though, you can ask to see engagement rings with round-, oval-, square-, or pear-shaped stones. If you want to get a little fancier ask for the “Marquise”, an oval-shaped stone but with tapered ends.

Which Shape is best?

In engagement rings, the shape of the stone can be determined by the presence or absence of other stones. Some shapes look better for the types of engagement rings that only have a single stone, while others are better suited to being surrounded by other smaller stones or a design of some sort.

Valentine’s Day Shopping for The Woman in Your Life

Shopping for Valentine’s Day instantly causes most of us to conjure up mental images of cupids, hearts, chocolates and roses. Chocolates and roses are very good gifts to give and are always appreciated, but if you are searching for a more unique gift to give your special lady, there are some tips you can follow to help you decide.
First, keep in mind what type of woman you are shopping for. If she is an outdoorsy type, she may enjoy something a little less feminine, such as a back pack to go hiking with, a new tent, a fishing pole or a tackle box. (And yes, there ARE women that actually enjoy these types of gifts for Valentine’s Day!) For a more feminine approach, a rose bush can be a great idea, especially if you plant it for her. Not only will it always remind her of the day you gave it to her, but it will brighten up your yard or balcony.
To pamper your special lady friend, get her a gift certificate for a spa or a back massage. These types of gifts are greatly appreciated, especially by working women that rarely get time to be pampered. A gift certificate for a pedicure and manicure is always a good idea too. Any type of gift which specifically gives a few moments of relaxation will be appreciated.
Jewelry is a good idea for those that enjoy wearing and collecting it. For Valentine’s Day, a locket is one of the most purchased items given to women. Lockets come in almost every shape and style, so finding a unique one should be fairly easy. Other types of jewelry to consider are bracelets and earrings. These gifts are special and can be handed down from mother to daughter through the years.
Roses should always be added to whatever gift you choose, because they symbolize romance and love. Even a woman that is more into sports then flowers, will appreciate a dozen roses, along with tickets to a sporting event that you can attend together.

What started fashion?

Have you ever asked yourself when or why fashion submerged?  Fashion has been a continuing factor for hundreds of years, and continues year after year with new trends and ideas.

Well before the 1840′s wedding dresses were of any color.  When Queen Victoria got married in 1840 in a stunning white lace trimmed dress, white dresses were then related to weddings from that point on.

In the 19th centry people with new clothes and fashions would be considered middle class.  Men who wore black suits, shades of gray and brown were looked at as being respectful, and having authority and responsibility.  Salior uniforms became vital for the middle class boys.  Bows, ruffels, and pastels were worn of those of the middle class girls.

Over the past five decades we have seen numerous trends in fashion.  In the 1950′s we saw women in poodle skirts and saddle shoes.  Then a year later it changed to women in miniskirts, baby doll dresses and go go boots.  In the 1970′s people were after bell bottoms and platform shoes or the disco look.  The 1980′s brought out clothes with big shoulder pads, leg warmers, designer jeans.  In the 1990′s the look was that of grunge, tattoos, straight hair with a part down the middle.

More often then not clothing is known to express emotions.  We often wear black as a sign of mourning the loss of a loved one, but at the same time black can also consider a formal color.  There are many well known people whom are well known for their clothing such as Elvis Presley.  Elvis Presley has been remembered by his white jewled suits.  Abrahma Lincoln was known for his stove piped hat.   Jackie Kennedy was known for her hats, and her well tailored suits.  President Jimmy Carter was remembered by his cardigan sweaters.  Ronald Reagan wore his cowboy hat as a symbol of his heritage.   As time changes so does trends and fashions.

How To Keep Up With The Latest Fashion Trends

If you’re serious about making sure that your wardrobe is fashionable and in line with the current trends, you have to put forth a fair amount of effort. Although it’s not as difficult or expensive as you might think, it is a constant and diligent effort. After all, there’s nothing more frustrating than thinking that you’ve just purchased one of today’s trendiest outfits, only to find out later that it was more fashionable last season.

You can start by selecting a few prominent celebrites who have a sense of style that you find to be particularly inspiring. Although you won’t want to copy everything they do, since it is important to have your own fashion voice, you can use the celebrities as a way to find out what the hottest emerging trends are and help you determine which brands will be the buzzwords of next season.

Fashion magazines can be another worthwhile resource. If you aren’t able to budget to buy a full subscription, consider just buying one magazine per month and reading it from cover to cover. Alternatively, scour the Internet for fashion blogs. These will provide information that is both timely and interesting, without you having to pay any fees outside of what you’d normally pay for Internet access.

Finally, you can hone your fashion skills by simply becoming more observant of those around you. Take a look at what people are wearing and decide what might look good on you, and what probably wouldn’t. Of course you’ll still have to try on similar clothes yourself to determine if they suit your body type, but you can become more aware of what’s fashionable just by taking care to be extremely observant.

Things to Expect at a Bridal Show

The proposal has happened, you and your fiancé have chosen those gorgeous wedding rings and now it is time to settle details for the perfect wedding.

But, where to start?

Sometimes the best way to understand your options is by checking out a few bridal shows in your area and seeing what the possibilities are. Bridals shows can offer you ideas on everything from musicians for your reception to the perfect wardrobe for your trousseau.

Most bridal shows are held in the spring or fall seasons, just before the heavy wedding seasons.

Here are some essential things to look for:

  • Caterers. One of the most important aspects of a great reception is the food. Bridal shows will have many samples from caterers that can give you ideas and choices for that yummy part of your wedding celebration.
  • Bridal Gowns. If you have not yet chosen your wedding dress, never fear! A good bridal show is filled with designers and samples that will help you make a superb choice for the perfect dress.
  • Wedding Vendors. These will include everything from superb photographers and musicians to florists and jewelers. Again, those dress designers will be on hand and often there will be a fashion show to tantalize you with possibilities for your honeymoon wardrobe.
  • Giveaways. Bridal shows are loaded with giveaways and specials for your wedding. Raffles may include anything from gift essentials to honeymoons, so be aware of when and where these giveaways take place.

One thing to realize is that bridal shows bring the crowds, so be prepared to stand in lines to buy your tickets. Sometimes tickets may be purchased online, so be aware of who and what is sponsoring the show and where you might find information on the net.

Above all, go with an open mind and have a great time!

Finding the perfect gift for the newborn can be a bit confusing though, as there are so many items to choose from.If the mother has registered at a store, you can always check on her wish list for ideas, but if not, you will need to speak with others to make sure the gift you have in mind isn’t duplicated. Other baby shower gifts include larger items. These are much easier to buy if the mom has registered online at a department store, but even if not, you can help greatly by purchasing a larger item. Some of these include car seats, a high chair, a bassinet, a walker or a bouncy seat. Other ideas that will be greatly appreciated are diaper bags, a diaper holder, a package or two of disposable diapers or a dozen cloth diapers. Diaper pins, rash ointment and baby items such as nail clippers and hair brushes make great gifts also.
For a more personal touch, a hand made knitted or crocheted outfit will be a keepsake. Booties and mittens that are home made are also a good idea for a baby shower gift.If you are talented in the area of art, making a decorative family tree picture can be a popular item, especially if the family tree is full of information about the child’s ancestors.
