It can be tough deciding what to wear for certain occasions such as a funeral or a wedding. After all, it’s not every day that you attend a funeral or a wedding and the last thing you want to do is dress inappropriately for the occasion.

Choosing an outfit that is considered proper funeral attire can be difficult. Here are some tips and guidelines you should follow to make sure your outfit is considered appropriate for the occasion.

Males Wear Suits

Men have it easy when it comes to funeral attire. A suit and tie is considered appropriate funeral attire for males. The color of the suit can vary from dark blue to black, and the color of the shirt is usually a lighter shade such as white or purple.

Appropriate Dress for Women

Women have several different options when it comes to funeral attire. Women can wear skirts, dresses, pantsuits, or dress pants for a funeral.

In the past, women’s funeral attire used to be in all black, but in recent years, women have started to integrate a little color into their outfits.  It is not uncommon to see women at a funeral wearing black dresses with a splash of orange or pink.

Appropriate Dress for Children

Parents have a little flexibility when it comes to dressing children for funerals. Appropriate funeral attire for children can include outfits that are similar to the men and women’s attire for funeral, or a formal outfit. It is also appropriate for children to wear colored clothing at a funeral.

Following these tips will help you find an appropriate outfit for a funeral.
